For Pharmacists
The following details are provided for use by the medical profession and pharmacists. Patients, their families and carers should contact their doctor for treatment options.
Unless registered in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), medicinal cannabis products may only be accessed through the Special Access Scheme, by an Authorised Prescriber, or for use in a Clinical Trial.
Access to medicinal cannabis is subject to specific requirements in each State and Territory. State and Territory Health Departments can provide further information on their specific requirements.
Medicinal cannabis may not be supplied wholesale unless registered in the ARTG.
An approved dispenser of medicinal cannabis is subject to legal obligations, including the requirement to:
- • Comply with any conditions imposed on a TGA approval relating to the medicinal cannabis product(s) being used
- • Only dispense medicinal cannabis in accordance with a prescription
- • Comply with the Guidelines for Dispensing of Medicines published by the Pharmacy Board of Australia
- • Ensure any excess or unused stock is disposed of and destroyed in line with state or territory requirements.
